Dear Parents
Practice begins August 4th at Pat Rodio Park. The first practice will begin at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m.. In August, practices will be 5 nights a week at Pat Rodio Park. Once school begins, practices will be from 6:00 p.m to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Some time in the Fall, practices will be moved to the newly turfed and lighted field off Draper Drive. This practice site will be a tremendous upgrade to our program.
Our first game will be the Kopper Bowl at Fairfax High School in September. The date and opponent will be determined in the coming days.
All games last year were on Saturday. At this point, I have no reason to expect a change.
I will not know the season schedule until late August/Early September because that's when the Fairfax County Youth Football League (FCYFL) issues the schedule.
Our last game, excluding playoffs, will be the Veteran's Bowl in November at Fairfax High School. Opponent and date will be announced soon.
Directions to any away game can be found by going to the Parents page or Players page and clicking the Game Directions button. This will link you the FCYFL site that contains directions for every playing site used in the league.
The weight class your son will play in is dependent on how old he is as of October 1st, 2008. If for example, he would be 12 years old on October 1st, 2008, then his "football age" would be 12, even if he were to turn 13 years old on October the 2nd or 3rd etc.
After you determine his "football age" go to the Parents page or Players page and click the Weight Class button. Across the top of the page, locate his age column then move down until you find his weight class.
Weights listed are the maximum a player can weigh and remain in a weight class. Example, the maximum a 9 year old can weigh and still play Ankle Biters is 55 lbs.
While we do not encourage players to "sweat down" to make weight, do not panic if you find your son a few pounds above a maximum weight. Football practices have a way of helping players drop a couple of pounds through activity.
Official weigh-ins do not take place until mid August with the Final weigh-in taking place in late August. FCYFL requires each player to present a DMV "walker" ID at the weigh-in.
Hope the above information helps. If you have additional questions, visit our soon to be updated web page late this week, email football@bextservices , or call 703-786-3141
Our last walk-in registration is August 9th at the FPYC Club House 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. You are also welcome to register on-line.
Get ready for a great season!
