Van Dyck Park, 3730 Old Lee Highway, City of Fairfax

No parking permitted at St. Leo the Great School or Church.  Parking options include Van Dyck Park, Daniels Run Elementary School, and the Willard Health Center lots accessible on Layton Hall Drive.

FUN RUN/WALK – in memory of Peter Banks and to raise money for the American Cancer Society, the charitable organization of choice for the Banks family.  Open to the public.  No on-line or mail-in advance registration.  Registration fee for all ages: $12 (includes a t-shirt for the first 300 to sign up on event day).

THIS IS NOT A COMPETITIVE EVENT – A CLOCK WILL BE AT THE FINISH LINE, BUT NO INDIVIDUAL TIMES WILL BE RECORDED OR POSTED

12:15 to 1:15                registration - sign waivers and pick up shirts

1:15 to 1:45                  run or walk on a 2K (1 ¼-mile) loop course through the park

            Light finish line refreshments will be available.

YOUTH CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL – open only to those invited teams and clubs.  Registration fee for all participants:  $2 (shirts available to purchase at an additional cost).

Order of Events:

            12:15 to 2:15                Number pick-up and registration

            12:15 to 1:00                Course open for self-guided course walk and warm up

            1:15 to 1:45                  Cross country runners welcome to participate in organized fun run for free

            1:45                             General meet instructions

            2:00                             1K start (open to the following 3 age groups: 6 & Under, 7-8, and 9-10)

            2:30                             2K start (open to the following 3 age groups: 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12)

            3:15                             3K start (open to the following 3 age groups: 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14)

            4:00                             4K start (open to the following 3 age groups: 11-12, 13-14, and 15+)

            4:00                             5K start (open to the following 2 age groups: 13-14 and 15+)

Maps will be available for course walks.  The 4K and 5K races will start at the same time.

Ribbons to all cross country invitational participants.  Medals to 1^st place boy and girl in each age category per race.  Boys and girls in the same age group will run together, but will be scored separately.  The possibility of multiple heats for each distance will be determined by turnout.

Courses: Scenic single and double loop courses (3 loops for 5K) - approximately 80% grass and 20% asphalt park trails.   Terrain is moderately hilly.

Exclusive event T-shirts for those not registered for the fun run/walk will be available for sale.  All meet and fun run net proceeds (registration fees and t-shirt sales) will be donated to the American Cancer Society on behalf of FPYC, all participating sponsors, individuals and teams, and the Banks family.

Peter Banks was the founder of the FPYC Running program and was its Head Coach and Director from 2000-2005.  He passed away on July 21, 2007 after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
